2015.01: Aya Maceda is appointed as Part-Time Lecturer and Studio Critic at Parsons School of Constructed Environments
2014.10: Official start on site of the active school in Bohol, Philippines.
2014.08: Successful funding of our schools through our Kickstarter Campaign (ClassAct: Active School), Corporate donor SGV, and private donors!
2014.05: HIMo [maker] SPACE: rapid innovation hub exhibition by actLAB + AGSX at the World Economic Forum’s East Asia Champion OCEAN’14 Convention.
2014.03: We have formed a foundation, ClassAct with the aim of building low-cost educational infrastructure to marginalized communities. We have adopted 2 schools in the Philippines destroyed by the recent earthquake + typhoon of 2013. We have teamed up with a group of passionate Filipinos (OBB), furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, SERGS engineers cooperative, Bambusa Collabo (bamboo craftsmen) + Ascender to realize our project — we have met, mobilized and fund-raised through crowdsourcing and social media. 8 classrooms built – serving as formal places of learning and a venue for open education and community events.
2014.03: Just moved to our new studio in Dumbo!
2014.01: Yipee! we are master planning a new residential mixed use community – gallery, sacred space, commercial program, boutique hotel and 3 house types on the way!
2013.12: Our entry to Royal Institute of British Architect [RIBA]’s Housing for the Private Rental Market has been awarded the runner-up prize!
2013.07: In the works is a design-research project funded by the Percival & Naomi Goodman Fellowship from Columbia University. The project, “Active Classrooms” involves the production of a manual for building low-cost classroom clusters using local materials in marginalized areas of the Philippines.
